Hmong Pepper Dip: The classic one

by Cindy Her

Hi foodies! Pepper dips are here! Everyone has their own version/kinds of pepper dip they love eating with their meats or veggies. There’s so many kinds and ways pepper dips can be made. I’ll be sharing more in the future. But here is a classic Hmong pepper dip we always make at home. SPICE LEVEL 4/5

This version is our fast and easy pepper dip every time we boil pork or chicken. We love it with any meat, but it goes well with pork. We love it with boiled pork with greens as well as boiled chicken in tofu. This version is quite spicy so if you love spice, this one is for you! 🙂 Enjoy

Basic Ingredients

Salt, sugar, fish sauce, Thai chili pepper, garlic, lime, cilantro, and green onion

Pound in a mortar and pestle

Eat with any grilled or boiled meat. I love this pepper dip with boiled pork. Check out my recipe for boiled pork with greens here:  https://chawjcreations.com/2018/03/03/boiled-pork-with-hmong-greens-nqaj-npuas-hau-nrug-zaub-ntsuab/

Dip dip away!

Spicy but mouth watering

ENJOY!

Pepper Dip: The classic one

Serves: 4-8 Prep Time: Cooking Time:
Nutrition facts: 200 calories 20 grams fat

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Thai chili peppers (~12)
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp mushroom seasoning (optional for the umami flavor)
  • 1 tsp sugar (optional) add if the peppers are super spicy
  • 1 Tbsp lime juice
  • 2 Tbsp fish sauce (3 crab brand)
  • Chop cilantro and green onion

Instructions

1) Place the chili peppers, garlic clove, salt, and sugar in a mortar and pestle. Pound until the pepper become a nice paste.

2) Scrap the pepper into a small bowl and add in lime juice, fish sauce, chopped cilantro and green onion. Mix well and serve with you favorite meat!

Notes

You can add more lime juice for more sourness. Freezing the chili pepper ahead of time will make it easier to pound into a finer paste. You can add as much cilantro and green onion as you want.
