Mom’s Fried Rice: Mov Kib

by Cindy Her

Nyob Zoo Foodies!

Mov Kib time & Mama Her is cooking today! I wanted to do a chill and nostalgic video for y’all. So I’d thought I’d share with you the fried rice my mom would make for us during our elementary/middle school days. I asked my mom to make us our childhood fried rice and here it is! The fried rice with sliced hot dogs, eggs, frozen vegetable medley, lots of sauces and you know… YUM! haha. As you all may know, making fried rice can go in any direction. You can add whatever you like and whatever rice/sauces of choice you enjoy etc. And it’s mostly also all unmeasured. You add a little bit of this and a little bit of that to make it taste good. And that’s what we’re going to do today.

I hope you enjoy this recipe & video and let me know what kind of fried rice you grew up eating! 🙂

Did I take you back to 1999? haha Happy Cooking!

Nutrition facts: 200 calories 20 grams fat

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cooked Jasmine Rice (day old works)
  • 4 hot dogs (sliced)
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 onion (sliced)
  • 1-2 cups frozen vegetable medley
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • ---SEASONING---
  • 1 1/2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1- 2 tsp sweet soy sauce (blue cap)
  • 1 tsp Maggi Seasoning
  • 2-3 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp fish sauce
  • Sriracha
  • Fresh lime
  • Optional: Cilantro, green onions

Instructions

  1. Cook your rice (do a 1 to 1 ratio of rice to water for best results). Using cold left over rice also works too. We like to use Jasmine rice for our fried rice. The cooking method we like to use is the mov vum cub kind. Mov vum cub makes the rice fluffy which the best results when making fried rice.
  2. Cut and prep the hot dog, onion, etc. Mix the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, Maggi seasoning, and sugar in a bowl.
  3. In a non stick pan add in 2-3 tbsp of oil. Heat until oil is hot. Add in the sliced onions. Saute for 1-2 minutes, then add in the sliced hot dogs & eggs. Then add the vegetable medley. Saute for 2-3 minutes or so. Then add the rice and sauce. Saute. Then add in some Sriracha and fish sauce to taste. Saute. Taste and adjust seasonings if desire. Transfer to plate and serve with lime on the side. You can add cilantro, green onions, and or black pepper if you desire. Happy cooking!
