Nyob Zoo! Hello!

Nyob Zoo! Hello!

It's Cindy Her!

Nyob Zoo! My Name is Cindy Her. I’m a full time Pastry Chef in the Pacific Northwest and creator, recipe developer, and video producer for C.HerCreations (C.HawjCreations), a digital platform dedicated to Hmong food and storytelling. I specifically focus on Hmong food I grew up eating but I also venture into other South East Asian food as well. As a second generation Hmong American woman, my goal is to teach you what Hmong people love to eat, what we cook, how we cook it, how it has evolved, and how we enjoy it. So welcome to my food blog! I want you to learn a little bit more about the Hmong food culture and I hope you all stay tuned on this culinary adventure with me.

Nyob Zoo All! Here’s another take on the very tre Nyob Zoo All!

Here’s another take on the very trending and delicious Shanghai butter rice cakes. This one is corn flavored.

This flavor is a very well-known type of ncuav commonly eaten in the Hmong culture. Corn rice cakes, also known as Ncuav Pob Kws in Hmong, are often made and best enjoyed during corn season. They’re usually made with fresh yellow corn, but nowadays, if corn is not in season, frozen or canned corn is often used instead. They’re full of corn flavor, chewy on the inside, and made not too sweet. Corn rice cakes are probably one of my grandma’s go-to rice cakes to make, so I thought I’d turn these delicious butter rice cakes into a corn-flavored version. They’re crispy and buttery on the outside, soft, chewy, and full of corn flavor on the inside. Give this one a try if you love corn!🌽

Nyob Zoo All! I’ve been seeing these Shanghai but Nyob Zoo All!

I’ve been seeing these Shanghai butter rice cake circulating around and thought to show you my take on it.

These are coconut flavored served with a coconut green onion egg free custard dip on the side. These coconut butter mochi cakes are inspired by khanom krok, a popular Thai coconut (rice base) pancake often sold on the streets of Thailand as a snack. They have a crispy exterior and a creamy and custardy coconut interior. They are usually topped with either corn, taro, sweet potatoes and or the most classic… green onions. I love khanom krok, so when I tried out the classic Shanghai butter mochi recipe, I thought these would actually be even more amazing coconut flavored with the coconut green onion dip on the side. You might think green onions and coconut together???? That’s kind of weird… BUT, if you have had the green onion khanom krok before, you know this flavor combo. If you haven’t, try it out and see if it works for you. It might be questionable at first but the flavor does grow on you.

These coconut butter mochi cakes are crispy on the outside, soft & chewy on the inside, and served with a sweet & salty coconut egg free custard with a hint of green onion. They are super easy to make and so worth it. So give it a try and happy baking!

Happy Father’s Day to my amazing and hardworking d Happy Father’s Day to my amazing and hardworking dad. 💛 I’ve been wanting to go fishing with him so we took him out to the Oregon coast to catch some surf perch. He always took us fishing when we were young and I still have some of the best memories fishing with him and the family. The waves were a little too strong so we didn’t catch anything this afternoon. But I am looking forward to fishing more with him and the fam this summer. What a wonderful and beautiful day out at the coast though☀️ I hope you enjoyed your day today Dad 😎
