Nyob Zoo! Hello!

Nyob Zoo! Hello!

It's Cindy Her!

Nyob Zoo! My Name is Cindy Her. I’m a full time Pastry Chef in the Pacific Northwest and creator, recipe developer, and video producer for C.HerCreations (C.HawjCreations), a digital platform dedicated to Hmong food and storytelling. I specifically focus on Hmong food I grew up eating but I also venture into other South East Asian food as well. As a second generation Hmong American woman, my goal is to teach you what Hmong people love to eat, what we cook, how we cook it, how it has evolved, and how we enjoy it. So welcome to my food blog! I want you to learn a little bit more about the Hmong food culture and I hope you all stay tuned on this culinary adventure with me.

HERITAGE 1993 I’m SOOOO excited for the dinner h HERITAGE 1993

I’m SOOOO excited for the dinner happening in August!!! This menu is inspired by the flavors, ingredients, and dishes I grew up with. I’ve been recipe testing everything (including the cocktails šŸ˜‰) these past few weeks & I can’t tell you how excited I am to be cooking for those attending. I wanted this dinner to be fun but still keeping traditional flavors alive. It’s almost like an evolutionary story of dishes & flavors I grew up with but made a little bit different through my culinary experiences. Here’s a peek at the menu and everything we’ll be serving that night.

So join me and winemaker Junichi Fujita @vigneronjun of Juna Vineyard Sunday August 9th at 6:00pm. It’ll take place at The South Store Cafe @southstorecafe located in Scholls, Oregon. It’s going to be an amazing night filled with great company, food, culture, storytelling, and fantastic wine!

This is a seated ticketed event, so purchase your tickets to reserve your spot! We have limited spots so get them now! August will be here sooner than you know it. Tickets for this dinner are on sale NOW until they sell out. Please click on the South Store Cafe online ordering tab at the top of the Home page and go to Sunday Supper. You can also call (503)628-1920 to reserve your spot during business hours 9am-3pm Tuesday through Sunday. Or comment ā€œTicketā€ and I’ll DM you the link!

Because this dinner is an exploration of a traditional cuisine, special diets cannot be accommodated, and we are not able to offer vegetarian options. Non alcoholic drinks can be provided upon request. Tickets are $150ea (at Checkout) and include cocktails, wine, and gratuity.

I hope to see you then!

Nyob Zoo All! Here’s another take on the very tre Nyob Zoo All!

Here’s another take on the very trending and delicious Shanghai butter rice cakes. This one is corn flavored.

This flavor is a very well-known type of ncuav commonly eaten in the Hmong culture. Corn rice cakes, also known as Ncuav Pob Kws in Hmong, are often made and best enjoyed during corn season. They’re usually made with fresh yellow corn, but nowadays, if corn is not in season, frozen or canned corn is often used instead. They’re full of corn flavor, chewy on the inside, and made not too sweet. Corn rice cakes are probably one of my grandma’s go-to rice cakes to make, so I thought I’d turn these delicious butter rice cakes into a corn-flavored version. They’re crispy and buttery on the outside, soft, chewy, and full of corn flavor on the inside. Give this one a try if you love corn!🌽

Nyob Zoo All! I’ve been seeing these Shanghai but Nyob Zoo All!

I’ve been seeing these Shanghai butter rice cake circulating around and thought to show you my take on it.

These are coconut flavored served with a coconut green onion egg free custard dip on the side. These coconut butter mochi cakes are inspired by khanom krok, a popular Thai coconut (rice base) pancake often sold on the streets of Thailand as a snack. They have a crispy exterior and a creamy and custardy coconut interior. They are usually topped with either corn, taro, sweet potatoes and or the most classic… green onions. I love khanom krok, so when I tried out the classic Shanghai butter mochi recipe, I thought these would actually be even more amazing coconut flavored with the coconut green onion dip on the side. You might think green onions and coconut together???? That’s kind of weird… BUT, if you have had the green onion khanom krok before, you know this flavor combo. If you haven’t, try it out and see if it works for you. It might be questionable at first but the flavor does grow on you.

These coconut butter mochi cakes are crispy on the outside, soft & chewy on the inside, and served with a sweet & salty coconut egg free custard with a hint of green onion. They are super easy to make and so worth it. So give it a try and happy baking!

Full video is live on my channel along with the full written recipe on my website. Link in my bio to give it a try!
