Making fresh soy milk with my uncle, aunty, and my cousin has been eye opening in terms of how much hard work locals in Thailand has to put when it comes to making a living. They make fresh soy milk and run a small convenience store for a living in Thailand. The convenience store runs from 6am-9pm and soy milk starts from 6:30pm- done (8:30-9). Making a living in Thailand is quite challenging for many reasons. Vendors in Thailand are the true entrepreneurs in my book. As some of you may know, Thailand is well known for their amazing street food. Street food is a great source of money for most locals but it’s not easy if your product doesn’t sell too well. Location is key. I would say my uncle has found his niche and has been super successful in his business. I was fortunate to spend the time with him and filmed him making his amazing soy milk and fried dough to go along with it. Sorry I don’t have a recipe for this! I just wanted to document my uncle making the soy milk and for you guys to see how they make a living here in Thailand. I hope that when you do visit Thailand, please try some soy milk no matter who makes them because a little contribution helps the vendors a lot. Even if you are not a soy milk fan, Thai soy milk may change your taste bud for it.
He makes 5 flavors: Green tea w/ basil seeds, pumpkin, regular w/ sugar, black sesame, and tamarind ginger. They were all amazing, so don’t doubt until you tried them all. I DRANK 5 cups of the regular soy milk in 1 day. That’s record for me haha.
I’ll release a smaller scaled recipe soon in the future if people are requesting it.
But enjoy the video and some pictures. I hope you all learn something 🙂
Soaking the soybeans to be grounded up
Soybeans being grounded up
Fresh Pandan Leaves to be blended in water to give the soy milk fragrance. Pandan water helps balance the rawness that soy milk may give. I love this addition.
Straining the soy pulp to get the soy milk
My uncle created this strainer himself using a cheese cloth and a steel stand. Works beautifully.
They also make fried dough to go along with the soy milk
