Nyob Zoo! Hello!

Nyob Zoo! Hello!

It's Cindy Her!

Nyob Zoo! My Name is Cindy Her. I’m a full time Pastry Chef in the Pacific Northwest and creator, recipe developer, and video producer for C.HerCreations (C.HawjCreations), a digital platform dedicated to Hmong food and storytelling. I specifically focus on Hmong food I grew up eating but I also venture into other South East Asian food as well. As a second generation Hmong American woman, my goal is to teach you what Hmong people love to eat, what we cook, how we cook it, how it has evolved, and how we enjoy it. So welcome to my food blog! I want you to learn a little bit more about the Hmong food culture and I hope you all stay tuned on this culinary adventure with me.

Nyob Zoo! Here’s my Uncle’s all time favorite sti Nyob Zoo!

Here’s my Uncle’s all time favorite stir to make: Breakfast Sausage Stir Fry. This dish is something he’s been making ever since I was a kid and now he makes it for his kids and they love it. It’s been awhile since I’ve had it and forgot how simple and full of flavor it still is. This stir fry is best eaten with rice to make it more filling. Growing up we would also make it with kielbasa and hot dogs since they were cheap and affordable! So give it a try! Happy cooking!

Full recipe and video is live on my website and channel. Link in my bio to start cooking!

🍚 MOV NTSE DLEJ 🍚 Yes, it’s basically cooked ric 🍚 MOV NTSE DLEJ 🍚

Yes, it’s basically cooked rice mixed with water and this is a staple in Hmong cuisine. It’s often eaten with a side dish, a stir fry, BBQ meats, seafood, ginger with salt, eggs, and the list goes on. In the Hmong culture, rice with water was often eaten as a struggle food when access to food was limited. Mixing water with rice helped fill the stomach and made the meal last longer when food was scarce. It was also something farmers would eat after coming home from a long day of farm work because it was refreshing. Adding water to cooked rice made it easier to eat and refreshing at the same time. Not only do Hmong people eat rice with water, but Koreans, Chinese, Cambodians, Mien, Japanese, and Thai people do too. To this day, it’s still something many Hmong people enjoy on a daily basis.

The thing about rice with water is that it should never be made with cold cooked rice (unless that’s how you like to eat it… you do you 🤓) It should always be made with hot cooked rice. The recommended water to use is filtered or purified water, not tap water (unless you like it with tap water then go for it). The way to enjoy rice with water is to mix filtered or purified water with hot cooked rice. The water can be at room temp, hot or cold. Iced water mixed with hot cooked rice is also common, especially during the hotter months because it’s refreshing. For me, the NO GO is using tap water with either cold or hot rice. Cold rice with cold iced water is also a NO. That’s basically eating hard rice. 😅

Mov ntse dlej goes great with a lot of different dishes.

Here’s a list of what I love to eat with mov ntse dlej
-Fresh sliced ginger with salt
-Smoked Beef or sometimes beef jerky
-Fried chicken
-Fried eggs with fish sauce
-Crispy bacon
-Fried fish
-Oven baked kielbasa
-Pickled mustard greens
-Fresh pepper with salt

For some childhood nostalgia
-Microwave hot dogs
-Hot Cheetos
-Pan seared Bologna

So if you’re new to this combo, give it a try. If you grew up with this, let me know what you like to eat with mov ntse dlej! 😊

🧨 FIRECRACKER SHRIMP 🍤 Save money and make these 🧨 FIRECRACKER SHRIMP 🍤

Save money and make these yourself at home! They’re really easy to make and take minimal ingredients. Perfect for any parties you may have coming soon. I love serving these with a Sriracha tartar sauce for some extra spice and texture. But you can definitely eat these with sweet chili sauce too. Happy cooking!

Full written recipe is available on my website along with full video on my YouTube channel. Link in my bio to go give it a try!

Or comment “Shrimp” and I’ll DM you the recipe!

BTW, I used deveined shrimps. What you’re seeing in this video is the underside of the shrimp which is the nerve cord (doesn’t need to be removed unless you want to) so chill out peeps 😎

SIMPLE WINS This soup is one I grew up eating an SIMPLE WINS

This soup is one I grew up eating and still hits till this day. Using pork bones gives the soup a richer pork flavor and the addition of cabbage helps balance out richness of the pork. My mom often made this soup for us using pork neck bones and spare ribs for the flavor. This soup is great paired with fresh steamed rice and a side of your favorite pepper dip. I hope you can give this one try!
