āœØTRADITIONĀ āœØ Dlaab Qhuas Peb CaugĀ  Grandpa āœØTRADITIONĀ āœØ Dlaab Qhuas Peb CaugĀ  Grandpa has always been the one to hold our tradition strong. As he is no longer physically here with us, he has taught all that he has learned and now the tradition continues on with his son[s]. Before the new year meal is served to the family, we pay our respects to our ancestors first with the meal we made. Here you see my grandpa welcoming his ancestors/loved ones to eat the meal with him, which consists of boiled chicken with rice. This is what we call hu cov laug lug noj nqag noj qhau which means to call the ancestors/elders to come and eat. This is usually done by the head of the household. Seeing the transition of this tradition being passed on from my grandpa to my dad makes me a little sentimental. I think mostly because I still love seeing it happen. It gives me a sense of strength, hope, inspiration, happiness ....so many feelings. Yet I canā€™t help but also feel anxious not knowing what the next generation is going to be like as some may not hold onto these traditions anymore. As the elders are still here, may we be inspired and motivate ourselves to learn from them to preserve our traditions before it fades away.
