Hello Foodies!
It’s time to show you all how to cook rice without using a rice cooker! A lot of you have requested me to show you how to make rice the traditional way and how to cook rice in a bamboo basket. Today, I’ll be showing you all how to cook rice in a pot (the traditional way). This method of cooking rice is how my grandparents and parents use to cook when they were living in Thailand. Since rice cookers were not easily affordable and accessible, cooking rice in a pot over a fire was the way to go. It’s super easy to make as long as you are able to control the cooking temperature. This method is great to use when you are going camping if you don’t have electricity. So give it a try and see if your rice turns out just as good. My mom says, if you can’t make in a pot, then you need to learn and practice… because you never know when your rice cooker may break down on you 😉
Using a rice cup to measure the rice and water
Rice cups measures about half as less than regular measuring cups.
Rinsing the rice to release any excess starch
Boiling the water before adding in the rice
Steam and cook on low heat for 15 minutes
Serve with your favorite dish
YUM!
