Hi Foodies!
Here is a very humble and simple beef recipe for you all! When we were little, my mom would make these beef and ginger meat patties or beef meatballs for us and they were always so good with rice. A little chunk of this beef patty went a long ways with rice. It has a great ginger kick and lots of great herbs and spices. So if you like ginger, this recipe is for you! Super flavorful. However, you can add other herbs you like in as well, such as lemongrass, fresh garlic, and shallots. This is just the basic one my mom makes since she’s more accustom to simple flavors and ingredients. So I hope you enjoy and get creative with the recipe!
Basic Ingredients
Herbs & Spices: Cilantro, kaffir lime leaf, mushroom seasonings, chili peppers, green onions, ginger, salt, garlic powder.
My mom loves to cook pretty simple. These are pretty basic herbs and spices. If you want to be adventurous, feel free to add fresh minced up garlic, lemongrass, shallots, and any other herbs! We used garlic powder since my mom doesn’t like the punch of garlic chunks while eating it. So it’s up to you!
We use a lot of ginger in this meat mixture. Ginger is a great tenderizer as well! So if you have super tough beef, putting a lot of grated ginger can help tenderize it! If you don’t like ginger then you can either put a little or just leave it, but it won’t taste as good! š
Get some good lean ground beef!Ā
Adding in all the herbs and spices to the beef Form into patties or meatballs
Cook it in the oven, cast iron, grill, etc. Cook it anyway you like! You can also cook it in banana leaves as well! It’s good either way!
And ENJOY!
The top picture is cooked in the oven and the bottom picture is cooked on a cast iron skillet.
Doesn’t look appetizing but it sure taste yummy!
Serve with rice and pickled greens. It also goes great with pepper dip!Ā
Be creative and add other herbs in! You can also use chicken, pork, or turkey meat instead of beef! Hope you enjoy!
Ingredients
- 2.5 lbs lean ground beef (or meat of your choice)
- 2 Tbsp minced kaffir lime leafs
- 1 cup chopped organic cilantro
- 1 cup chopped green onions
- 1/4- 1/3 cup grated or minced ginger (more or less)
- 2 Thai Chili pepper minced (or about 1-2 tsp)
- 1 Tbsp salt
- 1 tsp mushroom seasoning (po lo ku brand)
- 1 tsp garlic powder ( or use 3-4 gloves fresh minced garlic)
Instructions
1) Wash and chop of the herbs.
2) Add the herbs and seasoning to the ground beef.
3) Mix well. Feel free to fry a little piece to see if you like the seasoning. Add more pepper, salt, etc if you want. Adjust to your liking.
4) Form the beef into small patties or balls.
5) Cook the beef on a rack under broil for 10 minutes each side. (20 minutes total). Or cook on a cast iron skillet, grill, or in banana leaves. You can make little meatballs and turn it into a soup! Save the drippings from the oven cooked one and pour it over the meatball for extra flavor!
6) Serve with rice and pickled greens!
Notes
Add other herbs such as shallots, lemongrass, fresh garlic, etc if you want a more pronounce herby flavor. This is a simple recipe so you have the flexibility to add more to this! Cook any style you like! It goes great with pepper dip as well!

These are seriously delicious and so quick to make. They were my go-to last summer for neighborhood potlucks and cooking for friends. They always disappear and someone always asks for the recipe. Thank you so much!
