Nyob Zoo (Hello) Everyone!
My Name is Cindy Her, I am a Pastry Chef in the Pacific Northwest and food content creator for C.HerCreations (C.HawjCreations). I specifically focus on Hmong food I grew up eating but I also venture into other South East Asian food as well.
What is Hmong Food?
Hmong cuisine is a collection of culinary dishes founded by the history of Hmong immigration. Hmong food is heavily influenced by cuisines in surrounding Asian countries like China, Laos, Thailand, United States, and many more countries.
If you want to dive deep into true authentic Hmong cuisine, remember this: Rice, soup, and pepper. Simple soups made with mostly home grown vegetables, a bowl of rice, and some fresh chili pepper on the side are a staple in a Hmong meal. Fresh herbs, spices, and meat such as pork, chicken, and beef are also incorporated into a Hmong meal to give it more depth and complexity. Authentic Hmong food is fairly simple in terms of technique and flavor. Dishes are either boiled, steamed, or stir fried. And it is best to be shared and eaten together.
As a second generation Hmong American woman, I’m creating this platform to honor my heritage; sharing authentic family recipes, traditional cooking techniques, and the evolving story of Hmong cuisine. Through my work, I hope to educate, inspire, and celebrate the rich legacy of the Hmong people, ensuring that the Hmong food culture continues to thrive for generations to come.
