Nyob Zoo All!
I just wanted to share with you some of my favorite kitchen gadgets I love to use to shred cabbage since a lot of you were curious how I shredded cabbage so thinly for my noodle soups. So here’s some information for all of you to see which ones I have. I hope it helps so you can shred cabbage easily.
Enjoy! Let me know what you like to use to shred cabbage?
THE GADGETS
From left to right: Japanese Mandoline, Japanese cabbage peeler/shredder, Kuhn Rikon Original Swiss Peeler, Crude Asian Peeler Knife
Choose the right cabbage
You want to get a cabbage that’s pretty heavy. The heavier the cabbage the more compacted and tighter the inside will be. The tighter the leaves, the easier it’ll be to shred the cabbage without it falling apart.
This is an example of a light cabbage. The lighter the cabbage the looser the leaves are inside. This will be harder for you to shred the cabbage. This is an example of a heavier cabbage. This results in much more compacted leaves which will be a lot easier for you to shred.Quarter the cabbage and keep the CORE ON. The core will help keep the cabbage intact while you shred. Shred and work around the core.
With a peeler
Use any peeler you like. Just make sure the blade is sharp! I like to use Kuhn Rikon Original Swiss Peeler or a Crude Asian Peeler KnifeThe results: Pretty decent shredded cabbage. It may not be as thin as using the mandoline but it does the job.Japanese Mandoline
One of my favorite tools to use to get super thin strands. The results: My favorite tool to use to shred cabbage since you can adjust the thickness/thinness. It’s consistent and the blade is sharp. Just be very careful when using!
Japanese Cabbage peeler/shredder
The shredder contains triangular blades. This results in thin yet fluffy like strands. A great gadget to have for shredding cabbage. The results: The blade is sharp and wide enough to creates fluffy long strandsI hope this helps you out!
